I actually got around to finally reading this last night. I really enjoyed this story. Good to see the Phantom a little vulnerable (ie getting slashed) yet keeping his composure and still going after his goal. Am looking forward to the next issue...
Yes, he lets us know in no uncertain terms at the beginning what he would expect from the publisher, but the last three (large) paragraphs, in which he actually deals with the book, is mainly appreciative.
Does it have to be 10 out of 10 every time? Regardless?
Pip
It is not his like or dislike of the issue, but his snide remarks about Mike Bullock and Moonstone in general that created this post on the forum. My comments about the knife and such were just personal opinions about his review. As for the rest, you term it an undercurrent of dislike for the publisher, but it seemed pretty overt to me. That would change it from fair and balanced to biased, regardless of the ending score.
The problem, IMO, with the DeepWoods.org site is that it isn't a for Phantom Phans. Perhaps at one point it was, but it is no longer. Now it is a Phantom-site-that-reports-only-what-Guran-feels-is-worth-reporting-and-he-thinks-such-and-such-so-you-shoud-too site.
On CC.COM we try to give everything Phantom equal playing ground and we have NEVER dissed something on the main site. We have an area for reviews and such so obviously people will expect person oppinions there but you don't put that on the site proper. Even if you think such and such is rubbish you don't put that in a news page. For example I just got an e-mail from Gurnas site about Law of the Jungle and the e-mail read as follows

Preview the latest graphic novel from Moonstone featuring the "wide vision"
story "Law of the Jungle". Groan, can it possibly get any worse than this?
Now, Gurans personal oppinion of the book has no place in this matter. This is a news up-date his site, you don't go putting rubbish like that in a news up-date. Look at any fan site for any cult whatever and you will not see this. Go to Outpost Gallifrey - the biggest Doctor Who site on the web and you won't see the news page saying "We have the episode synopsis for Age of Steel up, but don't bother reading it becasue our web master thinks it's rubbish." You don't go to a Spider-Man site and see "Amazing Spider-Man issue #564 is out, but its crap so forget it". It's just common sence.
Haveing read Gurnas review of Law of the Jungle it's clear that he is another (and there seem to be alot) Phan who refuses to look at the Phantom in any way other than his personal view. And really, that is his problem, not Moonstones. If he is so one track minded he should stick with the safe road and just read Falk over and over.
By putting such things in his news posts he is telling the Phans what to think. Someone who may very well enjoy the story because they have an open mind may read that and not bother to pick the book up.
At the end of the day it is irisponsable and disrespecting those that visit his site becasue it implies they are too stupid ot think for themselves.
Oop, sorry for the double post there.

Triple post, my friend. On CC you would be banned for this!

Regardless of how severe his words were at the beginning of this article, I think that the people you are referring to will not just take Mr. Shedden's word for it. On the contrary, I am almost convinced that the war of words that is surrounding this issue will only benefit sales, like I am sure the huge furore over Legacy did recently.
I seem to have marched into an established conflict here, and there seems to be a lot of baggage carried around.
Let me finish with two points:
* I understand Mr. Shedden is a former Moonstone consultant, so I assume that he knows what he is talking about
* But the main thing is the review on his site. Notwithstanding his e-mail to you, he provided a balanced review. Like most honest reviewers in all walks of life, he informed the readers where he generally stands on the issue, giving the readers an opportunity to assess the review through that prism (although I agree that Mr. Shedden could have been less acidic, if he had found it in his heart). After that, he gave an instructive and largely appreciative assessment of the story, finishing off with a creditable 3 out of 5 mark. No bias there, an neither should there be
I will buy and read this issue myself, regardless of what Mr. Shedden says. From that follows that other Phantom fans will do the same. Please do not underestimate their independence.

Actually, no, you wouldn't. If you'd botherd to read the forum rules it clearly states we take into account that sometimes people goof, as I did there, and that is fine. I tried to delete the original post here but was unable.
The banned member you mention continued to double post after dozens of warnings. We gave him many chances but he continued to do so. Also, he swore and attacked other members. His double posting was only one ingredient as to why he was banned.

Yeah, yeah...
No, actually Dougy, I was merely joking. I apologise if it seemed that I was attacking you.
I have just made a similar mistake on another forum, and it looks really silly. I wish the Administrator would wake up (different timezone) and deal with it asap.
Sooo I guess this is the place to post what I thought of #11? Well anyways. I reallly enjoyed this story! A good family adventure....but with still just enough action to keep me occupied. I especially liked how the twins were shown and were able to get them selves out of trouble [well kind of] with out the aid of their Dad. Now, as for the Phantom knifing a guy. I honestly have no problems with this! Why do I say this?
1] If someone was about to kill your children what would you do??
2] By the looks of things it doesn't actualyl fatally wound or cripple the person but just injures them, with the same power as one of his punches.
Well that's just my 2 cents!
Is their going to be a follow up to this story? Also, that Singh Leader guy we saw at the end....was that Temur Singh or a completely differend Singh leader? I don't think it is but anyways.

The follow-up is being worked on right now.
As for the Singh Leader, he is one of Temur's underlings. Temur makes his debut in the annual.
