Not trying to give our Friends At Ol' Moonstone (FAOM? Sounds familiar!) any anxiety attacks, but I am optimistic that they will be publishing the Phantom into the not so distant future. So I was wondering if they might be insterested in publishing 2 versions of issue # 29; their own Moonstone version of the continuing adventures of our purple clad hero AND an anthology to fill in for the missing issue #29 between King Comics # 28 and Charlton Comics # 30!

It could be 16 pager (or whatever) done in the 1960's style; imagine a Moonstone logo (white "M" on red block with "Moonstone comics" in the middle) done a la Charlton on the upper left corner of the cover. The price could be 12 cents (x issue #29) or $3.48. It could be "the Comic Book that Time Forgot!"

If 2 separate issues is too much to ask, maybe they could combine the regular series and long lost issue into one.

Any thoughts?

Ok, so when it comes to the Charlton thing, I'm not happy. I couldn't stand that series at all. That said though, this would actually be a very fun project. I like the idea of the new logo. Wouldn't this require a different licensing or something for this to happen?

Brucey, I wouldn't think new licensing would be required, as it would still be a Moonstone-published comic, just with a tip of the hat to longtime Phantom collectors who know the story of the missing issue #29.

This is good, creative thinking, Kevin, an idea I'd love to see come to press. My own suggestion for the project would be not to create two Moonstone #29s, so as not to confuse present-day collectors. Rather I think Moonstone should create #29 as a flipbook with enough bonus pages to add the retro-style Phantom story Kevin mentions. Then, depending on how you hold the comic, on one side there would be a typical Moonstone cover that leads into a typical Moonstone Phantom comic, and on the other side there would be a retro-style Phantom cover that would look like the long missing issue #29, leading into a retro-style story.

In addition, my vote for the cover would be that it look more like the final issue of the King imprint, rather than the first issue of the Charlton imprint.

Sounds like fun! Would be even better if an old school Phantom artist might be interested enough in the project that they're willing to keep their price down so that Moonstone could afford them. Maybe if you start shopping now, Moonstone? I don't know if you could coax anyone out of retirement (which would be awesome), but two guys who are still working that I believe could pull this off are Fred Fredericks or Joe Giella.

I'm kind know nothing about the whol licensing thing, so I never really thought about that. Oh well. Anyways, I like your idea of the retro style cover and possibly hiring some of the old artists. If this is going to happen, and ends up extra sized well that would be great as #25 is also going to be extra large!:mrgreen:

I agree that it could be a flip book with a retro cover on one side and current cover on the other. I also agree that it could be patterned after King Comics # 28 style; that may make more sense since this is a King Feature Syndicate character we're talking about; or maybe one cover in King Comics style and another in Charlton Comics style. It would be a neat idea.

Although I agree that some of the Charlton stories are not considered the best era of the Phantom, I still enjoy trying to collect and read these stories; simple though they may be, there is a certain 60's charm in them. It does harken back to a simpler time. I also am grateful that Charlton was around to publish Phantom books that otherwise would not have been published; they at least had the character out there, even thouh the quality sometimes suffered.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and support; if any of you know any other Phantom sites that might find this news of interest, by all means send a link or copy my post. I think it would be a neat idea. Now let's see what the Moonstone peoples say.
