Mr. Verheiden is responsible for writing the 1989-1990 DC Phantom comic, which I think is the best take on the Phantom in a US comic book so far (looks like that might change if Mike's run from Moonstone can keep the same quality as I want it to Tongue03 ).

Would it be an idea to get Mark to write some Phantom stuff for Moonstone? I'd give anything to see him back in the Skull Cave. His stories were darker and more realistic than the average Ghost Who Walks story, which I like. Also, the story "Waste" from issue 6, one of my favorite Phantom stories, is quite possibly the most emotionally moving comic book story I have ever seen.

"Waste" was very good, they all were brilliant, but for me the standout was the 2 part "Hate" storyline [#4 and #5]. Good grief, that story gave me chills like no other comic book has before. The art from Luke Mcdonnell [I think that's his name!] was absolutley amazing because he made the Phantom look so dark and cool. Yes, I agree, to see him write a Phantom story again would just be soooooo cool!!

I have to agree with Hate. I also loved the two parter series of Framed. In fact all of them were very good. Gold Fever was another heart wrenching story that im sure would have left a few tears behind...
Never read any of his stories, so no comments.

I highly recommend you do! They are absolutely amazing! Seeing as we're talking about the old DC series, Issues 1 and 2 [Guns] were cool as well. Those guys killing the Jungle Patrol Men and then the Phantom setting out for revenger/justice was a good touch.

Mark also wrote some excellent things for TV and films including "The Mask", "Time Cop" (both for the movie and TV series),"Freakly Links," and for "Smallville" which he served as an executive producer and writer for the first few years.

When I last spoke with him he was still involved with Smallville, but he went back to comics and wrote for Superman. Now he is working with Battle Star Galactica.

I believe Mike is avoiding the DC Phantom so as not to be influenced by it at his early stages of writing for the Phantom, but there are definite parallels to what he is doing with modern Africa and the outstanding work that Mark did for DC Phantom comics.

Exactly what I want to hear. About time someone made stories with a modern Africa, rather than the "fairy tale" country of most Phantom stories.

Yes, I agree. The Verheiden Phantom series was excellent.

As Walker said "Exactly what I want to hear".
OK so I've said it a million times, I loved the DC series BUT I like how with this story we're going to be seeing a lot of Mike's brilliance instead of just a clone of one of the issues from the DC series.

That is correct. The only Phantom stories I'm reading are Falk stories. Once I feel completely comfortable with the character, then I'll grab those DC books out of my spinner rack and read away.
