However, it would be less costly to put together a DVD or CD set of all of Lee's stories. It would be a lot of scanning and the licensing would have to be worked out, but that is a more reasonable alternative at this time. Such a project would give fans a chance to see all of Lee's work without agressively collecting publications out of print.

This is a very good idea, and one that should be applied to many other comics as well. Relatively cheap (but time-consuming) to assemble, and relatively cheap to buy.

While your right that this would be cheaper to produce and to buy, personaly I wouldn't get it. I have a copy of the MAD CD-ROM collection and I've seen a few of the Marvel ones and honestly, I really do not enjoy reading the issues off a computer screen. It just feel dead and all the action and brilliance seems to vanish from the "page".

I'd much rather pay $80 for a nice hardcover edition than $40 for a CD/DVD digitalization of the strips.

Yeah it's a real pain in the *#& reading of a computer. It's a lot more fun sitting in a nice, relaxing chair [a massage chair is always good] with the comic right in front of you. It's also a lot easier to access.
