Not long now until Moonstone's Prose Anthology hits the racks, soooo who's really excited!! Honestly, I'm not familiar with the character but I'm gunna give it a shot anyways. The cover looks sick!

Just a quick question though, for guys like me, who have had no exposure to the character, will we understand what is going on? In other words, is it going to be a good jumping on point for new readers of the character? If any one of the Moonstone staff could answer that, it would be greatly appreciated!Grin
I keep hearing a lot of good things about this book. Can't wait to check it out. Grin

Hi Brucey,
I took your question to the powers-that-be and this is what they told me in response:

"Any reader of adventure fiction should be able to pick this book up and understand what the character is all about within the pages of the first story!

The Spider does not have any kind of complicated background or continuity that needs explaining.

He is just a die hard, relentless (ok, perhaps a little touched in the head, but what’s a little mental health between friends?) crime fighter 24/7.

So, sit back and enjoy the ride!"

I hope that helps.

That helps a LOTDance Thanks Mod [and also give my thanks to Joe for the answerthumbs up]

If the Shadow was insane, owned about 128 guns and had every case involve the entire population of a small town getting bumped off, he'd be the Spider.

I love those old Spider stories. If Moonstone can capture half the over the top, violent, surreal fun of them, I'll be happy to throw my money thier way.
I have a short excerpt – the opening paragraphs, in fact – from my contribution to The Spider Chronicles, "The Spider and The Monster Makers," posted at my blog, if anyone is interested.

It's going to be a great book.

The BEST on The Spider, one of my favorite sites and beautifully designed. Check out the Links and visit the Doc Savage site (and find the G-8 game for some more cool pulp fun).
Enjoy, indeed.

As a long time Pulp Hero fan, I look forward to all of Moonstone's new pulp works.

I have not read as much Spider novels as, say, Doc or The Avenger, he is an interesting character. TCH gave a pretty good characterization of him. Also read the Wikipedia articles on these characters.

Almost all the pulp hero stories were stand alone. Any info you needed to know about the character and such would be told in the novel, so unlike many comic characters, you could pickup any story and enjoy it. The Spider did have a couple of continuing stories in the pulps (a very RARE thing that I think only one other character, Operator 5, did).
