So, I'm spending less on new issues from the big two and lots more on their telephone book sized reprint trades ( when I'm not buying lots of Moonstone comics, that is)

I was wondering who out there is reading Essentials and Showcase and what ones do they recommend.

My current favorites are Essential Defenders ( just got Vol. 2) and Showcase: Challengers of the Unknown. ( The Elongagated man volume was excellent as well. Though, it does make you wonder who that mopey knuckle head is in 52)

Hoping to get the Man-thing collection and Brave and the Bold.

Essential Daredevil Vol.1 & 2 were great fun!!

Showcase Presents Green Lantern Vol.1 was also great pulp SF stuff. I loved it.

What I'd highly recommend are the two volumes of Showcase Presents House of Mystery. Trust me, there are some great stories within these pages!! Grin

Is the Challengers of the Unknown collection something you'd recommend to pulp SF fans? *pointing at myself* wink
I would recommend Challengers most highly.
Earth gets invaded every ten minutes and there are lots of mad scientists and funky gadgets and artifacts popping up.

Only problem is that in B+W it's hard to tell the guys apart.

I have to find a copy of the Daredevil volume. I love the old yellow costume.
Much rather see him fighting Stiltman and Electro then the gritty crime fiction stuff they are doing now.

SOLD!!! Thanks, man!! Grin

Couple more reviews:

Showcase: Brave and the Bold: lots of great, goofy team up stories with an amazingly un-gritty and grim Batman. Couple stories were part of the original Deadman story.

Essential Man-Thing: I want whatever some of Steve Gerber was smoking. God, these are some amazing, bizarre stories that are as close as Marvel would ever get to being Vertigo. Great stuff.
