A good book about a relevant subject. I really enjoyed the way The Phantom preyed on the superstitions of the African soldiers, continually undermining the faith that Him's men had in the dictator's power. I think this one will stay with me awhile.
Long story short, I won't be able to read this until Monday

At first glance, nothing much seems to happen in this ish.
But it is probably prudent to wait for the remainder parts before jumping to conclusions

But! really enjoy the paneling of the artwork. Agree, this is so not like the post-neo-whatever-modernistic structure we see in comics these days, but does it make for easier and enjoyable reading.
Baseline: it's good to read a comic without trying to fit together a jigsaw puzzle at the same time!
I agree csrins, a really good read. It's always great to see the Phantom in "ghost mode", personally, that's my favourite part of any Phantom story.
I may be wrong on this, but was this the first issue printed on slick paper? Normally I'd cringe at having a character who is usually situated in a twilight situation (such as the Phantom and Batman, for instance), printed on bright, glossy paper. It always seemed to take away from the story's effect, and yet, for whatever reason, it didn't seem a problem with this issue.
Finally, was this the same Mike Bullock who also wrote Sonic X #21 that came out the same day as Phantom #17? If so, good job on the Sonic issue! I'm a bit of a fan of the blue hedgehog as well, and yours was a truly memorable story. Again, if you wrote it, I'm amazed how you're able to go from something as dark as the Phantom to the lighthearted Sonic within the same span. It can't be easy switching gears like that.

I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying it so far.
You guessed it, this is the first issue with the slick paper. Moonstone thought that since this issue was so special, it deserved special paper. I think it turned out nice.
And, yes, the Sonic X was penned by me. It's nice to be able to switch between stuff like Sonic X and Lions, Tigers and Bears over to stuff like The Phantom, Zorro and some of the other stuff I'm writing. It keeps it fresh.
An incredible issue. My review will be posted tomorrow

Will parts two and three be released in the next two months? I would like to order all three issues in one package.

Yes, issue 18 is already at the printer and issue 19 is going through the final production stages.
I've heard of several stores selling out of issue 17 already, however, so you may not want to wait too long...
It selling out can only be a good thing, but is there any danger of Moonstone's web-shop, where I tend to buy my Phantom books, will do the same anytime soon? I will order the issues separately if I have to, but it's always that silly little thing called money, and how to save them, that springs to mind...
