Glad you enjoyed it, Brucey.
Managed to pick this up today and just finished reading it in my lunch break.
Well done boys, I enjoyed this.
I liked how the ending of the reign of Him was played with his own followers starting to doubt him, this was good. The one page punch by the Phantom was well drawn with the Phantom looking almost perfect in the way he was drawn. I liked how the Phantom used the Bander and animals to help struck fear into their hearts.
I also liked the final page with the Singh again playing center stage. It sets up a nice reniune with the Phantom and two dangerous enemies.
The page with the rain when the guards start to doubt and the Phantom entering the castle would have to be one of my favourite pages.

This for me was the weakest part of the story. I just didn't find it necessary to have the Singh as the real bad guys in this story, would've preffered the main villian to have just been Him. That said though, I'm excited to see what the Singh (and Manuel Ortega) have up there sleeves

Just because Temur was funding HIM doesn't mean HIM was any less evil.
The reason I liked it is because it leaves it open and while its the end of the story and saga it doesnt totally wrap the whole situation up. It leaves you asking more and wanting more. All good movie writers do the same with their scripts.
btw my review on my blog is up:

Mike I hope you dont mind me saying this but most of your stories have been fairly dark and gritty. Any chance of something a little different?

Thanks for the review, Germ.
The "dark & gritty" is just a reflection of what I see when I research modern Africa, unfortunately.
However, I'm doing fill-in issues (with other artists, beginning with #20) where I'm exploring the life of the 13th Phantom. Those stories are more swashbuckling/adventure type stuff. You'll see him in #20, 26, 30 and more.

Thats what I mean, something different every so often. Good to see some stories about past Phantoms. Thanks for reading my review and answering my question
Damn fine issue folks! The only thing stopping it from getting a Good Mark for me was that I felt there wasn't enough story for three issues. Three issues, IMO, should have more exploration into character, especially that of HIM. However I LOVED the way the Phantom was played as a big mystery character, frightening the hack out of everyone. Brilliant!
Still, very, very good and a brilliant tease for #20. Can't wait!
I have read all the three parts of the story and want to say a few things.
First of all, Congratulations to mike bullock and silvestre for a job well done. This story was really entertaining and I enjoyed it immensely.

One small problem, though. This proclivity among current phantom writers to somehow try and insert a singh angle in every other story irritates me. Egmont guys have probably decided that they will pay more attention to singh brotherhood than the phantom himself, stories like “the road to power†being a very good example of their decision, and now Mike probably has decided to travel down the same road. Why this extra importance given to this brotherhood in recent years? It will be interesting to calculate what percent of phantom stories written by lee falk mentions the word “singh.†I don’t have the exact figure with me just now but I am sure, having read almost all of them, that it will be a very small percent. But now, any new reader of moonstone or egmont may think that phantom has done precious little during the last five centuries other than fighting singh brotherhood.
Finally, a request to Mike. Two of my favourite phantom villains happen to be the least talked about. Both are dangerous criminal organizations, one is called “the vultureâ€(D114, 1971) and the other is called “the hydraâ€(D102, 1968). Mike, if you have not already done so, kindly do read these two old Falk stories and try and bring these two criminal organizations back to phantom’s attention. Infact, given the current global scenario, “the vultures†will no doubt be doing brisk business, what with so many disasters, both natural and man-made, striking humanity with frightning regularity. How the misdeeds of groups like vulture or hydra have not caught phantom’s attention for so many years is indeed baffling.
