We had James from the Invisible Children organization over for dinner last night. He's spent the last 2 years in Uganda living with the displaced people. The stories he told us were very eye opening. Things all of us take for granted are wild dreams to those people. The fact that struck me the hardest was the deaths from malaria, a totally treatable disease. The treatment costs $2, yet so many people over there can't afford that and end up dying from it.
However, the funds raised from Phantom 17-19 went to prevent that and other things in the region. Congrats to all of you who sought out the B covers!
James has begun a new company, called Acholi Beads, where people from the Acholi tribe make designer jewelry from beads created with recycled paper (so, not only does it have a great economic impact on them, but it has a wonderful environmental impact on the world at large). Just one person making a living from the company has a profound positive effect on roughly 12 people around them in Uganda. You can check out the company at http://www.acholibeads.com
