The Phantom #21 (Moonstone Comics)
By Mike Bullock, Silvestre Szilagyi, Bret Blevins
With a new story arc, a new jumping-on point. A new warrior-woman is making a play to take over all of Africa, and the Phantom has to battle her terrorist forces both in his his costumed identity and unmasked as Kit Walker, His wife, Diana Palmer-Walker, has a diplomatic mission of her own to undertake, but she has become a target as well. The events of this issue are pretty shocking, even if they do sort of have that feeling of a comic book event that can easily be turned around. Bullock shines here, showing how even a superhero as old as the Phantom can easily be brought around to face a truly contemporary challenge. If you've never read the adventures of the Phantom before, or if you've been away for a while, this is a great issue to get back on-board.
