What happened!?!

Check out Newsarama.com for the story. Dave, what's going on here?

Ticktock
What horrible news! Especially when you read about what Dynamite wants to do to the character. Their version of the Lone Ranger is awful, and this sounds like it will be even worse. Say it ain't so Moonstone! Will the planned issues 25 and 26 still be released? Anything else coming before 2009?

Unfortunately, Dynamite's batting around the name of a great artist, but I'm sure they'll tick off most current Phantom fans because of their proposed plot direction. Must have made some kind of deal for all King properties or something. Whatever, it's a shame!
I caught this too. Pretty out of nowhere.
This is the worst news I've heard in a long time.
What is going on here?! I can't tell how shocked I am to hear this. Did Moonstone give up on the Phantom or did King Features just give the licence to somebody else? I NEED to know more!

God, these folks sounds like they have no clue whatsoever, moving him away from the jungle. DAMN!

If it's Moonstone who gave up on the character, I want to say thank you so very much for trying and doing a great job. It has truly been marvelous for a fan like me to see you do so much great work with my hero.

If it's King Features who simply gave the licence to these fools who obviously have no interest in preserving what the character is all about: Damn you, and thank you for screwing up the most iconic character you own.
Please, I need more information about this as soon as possible from someone in the know.

It feels like a good friend of mine has died. My emotions are a bizarre mix of anger, sadness and emptiness.
Moonstoners, we really need some info on this...it's scary!

“I don’t know all the particulars about whether or not the other publisher let go of the license, or how, but we were approached,” Barrucci tells Newsarama.

So this confirms that KFS is indeed the one who approached them and probably agreed for Dynamite's take on reinventing the character. I enjoy Alex Ross's art and will be looking forward to his take on the Phantom. But this reboot sounds like a bad idea. Of course all the major superheroes have been rebooted for the past several decades and writers have been tweaking their origins and mythologies here and there, but most of them never had such drastic change that removes the essence of the character. Taking Phantom out of the Jungle and placing him permanently in the city just isn't right. Hopefully Mike and the guys at Moonstone will able to give us the answers in the next couple of days.

If Moonstone is still allowed to continue with the license, then I won't have any problems with Dynamite taking the character where ever they want. Give Phantom a cape and some superpowers while they are at it. I understand that one should reserve judgment before actually reading the comic. But in this case I can't help wonder if KFS really cares about the future and legacy of the character at all.

The Ghost Who Walks... is on the move.
Cryptic much, Mike?

Guys, I have received a reply to the email I sent Mike. I've quoted his response below (my question are in bold).

Can you give us any info on what's going on here?

A little.

Does Moonstone still have the license to make Phantom issues?

Yes.

Is your series coming to an end.

Yes it is... and a new beginning.

I realize that DE's series could possibly be produced alongside your own but the phans would really like some kind of announcement.

It will be. Expect an official announcement soon.

I understand if you can't talk about this just yet, but if you (or Joe for that matter) can tell us anything to give us an idea of what's going on that would be really great.

Big news coming soon. Stay Tuned.

Some all fears can now be put to rest. It'll be interesting to see that this "new beginning" is and where the series is going from there. So all hope is far from lost!

Mike sure knows how to tease his readers.... finally it's all good Grin.
