As some of you already know, Joe G and I have been working on creating a cohesive pulp universe with multiple old Pulp characters and a variety of new ones. Before we go much further, I thought it might be nice to gauge your thoughts on such an endeavor. In addition, how would you like to see it offered up (i.e. comic books, prose anthologies, short novels, magazine anthology, on the back of a cereal box)?
I'm having a blast creating this thing, but want to make sure it's put out the best way possible to make it "new reader friendly", so give us your thoughts.
Thanks!
Hi Mike. I've registered. Thanks. Now I can enjoy the Moonstone discussions.
I would like to see it offered up as comics. Regular monthly or whatever format. A comics MAGAZINE might also be nice, as well as original graphic novels. And the back of cereal boxes is a BRILLIANT idea!
Are you asking for input into who the characters might be? I assume that depends on licenses and public domain issues. The Spider? I don't imagine either the Shadow or Green Hornet are available...a masked femme fatale is necessary, of course, and a supernatural-tinged concept or character would work (I've got some ideas here).
Hey...how about the Black Bat?
And here at Moonstone I'm still

Hi Doc,
Good to see you made it over.
Thanks for the input. We do already have a list of characters, but you never know who else might show up.

I would put my vote towards Comic release. Just my personal opinion but I definately prefer comic over a prose relase. Less reading to do and more looking at the pretty pictures.
I vote for comics too.
Once this universe is established, then it might be fun to see some prose stuff, but get the comics established first.
You know, keeping in the format of older, pulp-style comics, having a single comic with two or three short stories featureing different characters would be pretty fun. I enjoy reading "Adventures into the Unknown", which isn't a hero comic, but the short story format is enjoyable!
Sounds like a great project, Mike!

I don't care what format it's in. I just want it! I love pulp characters and would love to see some new characters created in that mold.

I like the idea of an anthology. Or maybe a split book. Either would be a nice way to introduce a bunch of characters.
Maybe one Kit Walker could do some kind of cameo in one of these stories, so that the many people out there who refers to him as a "pulp hero" would finally be right.

I have been pushing and suggesting a Pulp Universe crossover all over for ages, and still have my wepages still up

And I am still all for it, it movies as well. But with the usual chronicle delays that readers have to suffer with the all cheap talk and very little action coming from Moonstone; a Pulp Heroes crossover universe seems more like a dream here, and I would much prefer to see that dream realized within an other more serious publisher like Dynamite Entertainment, Image Comics, or Dark Horse, with release dates more respected, and projects multiplied
Still waiting for these very long talked about hardcovers
- THE AVENGER CHRONICLES (Moonstone, September 23)
- THE DOMINO LADY: SEX AS A WEAPON (Moonstone, retard)
As I said, Moonstone talks a lot, but really does very little
